Dental Implants — A Permanent Solution
Are you suffering from the embarrassment of gaps in your smile from missing teeth? Are you experiencing discomfort or pain from ill-fitting dentures? Are you tired of not being able to eat foods that you love because missing teeth or dentures make that too difficult? As our patient, you know that our primary goal is to do what is best for you. Read on to discover why we believe dental implants are the next best thing to your regular teeth when you consider replacement solutions.
The Next Best Thing
You have a number of options to replace a missing tooth. At Star Dental, we don’t take it lightly when we recommend that you consider having dental implants, because it is not a one-step procedure. However, we love the foundation that implants provide for rebuilding your smile, since an implant most closely replicates the actual structure of your natural teeth in appearance, design, and function.
An implant consists of a titanium post that is surgically implanted into your jawbone. This imitates the function of a natural tooth’s root, fusing to the bone to provide a stable base for the other part of the implant. The upper, or visible, part of the implant is a natural-looking crown that is attached to the post. Permanent and secure, a dental implant will feel and look like a “real” tooth — so much so that you may forget that you even have an implant in place.
Don’t Ignore Missing Teeth
While it is true that a dental implant is a good choice for cosmetic reasons, an implant does more than that. If a tooth is missing, infection and bone loss in the area are very real possibilities. Studies have shown that an implant can prevent, and actually reverse, bone loss. Implants are also easy to care for — just maintain your normal brushing and flossing routine — so there is less worry about plaque or gum disease than with other replacement options.
