Complete dentures are removable appliances used to replace teeth when all of the teeth are missing. There are two types of complete dentures: conventional and immediate. Conventional dentures are made after any remaining teeth have been removed by our dentists and the gums have had time to begin healing, usually about eight to twelve weeks. Immediate dentures are prepared in advance, so they can be placed as soon as the teeth are removed. Gums and bones shrink during the healing period, so immediate dentures — which are often used as temporary dentures until permanent dentures have been fabricated — generally require more adjustments than conventional dentures.

What are partial dentures?
When some of a patient’s natural teeth remain, partial dentures may be used to replace missing teeth. Like complete dentures, they are usually composed of a gum-colored base with replacement teeth attached. A partial denture is sometimes connected to the mouth by a metal framework or may make use of a dental bridge, which is made of crowns for the teeth on either side of the gap with an artificial tooth or teeth in between. After fit and function have been determined, the dental bridge is cemented permanently into place.
