When the pulp (or nerve) of a tooth is infected, Dr. Sonny Afshar and Dr. Fara Afshar may recommend a root canal. Root canal therapy is the process of removing infected pulp from the inside of a tooth. During root canal therapy, out dentists will remove the pulp, clean the inside of the tooth, and seal the tooth in order to prevent further damage.
ROOT CANAL THERAPY

Root Canal Basics
Why Root Canals Are Necessary
If infected pulp is not treated, it breaks down and allows bacteria to form within the pulp chamber, also known as the root canal. As a result, the tissue surrounding your tooth may become infected or an abscessed tooth may occur. With an abscessed tooth, a pus-filled pocket forms at the end of the tooth roots, possibly causing pain and swelling that can spread to the face, neck, or head. Infected pulp may also cause drainage problems, as a hole can form in the side of a tooth where it may drain the infected material into the gums or through the cheek and into the skin. Through root canal therapy, we can prevent these consequences and restore the health of your smile.
