Does your child give you a horrified reaction after asking them to brush their teeth? If so, we are here to help you make brushing a fun and enjoyable activity that your child looks forward to doing!
First, have your child hum a two minute tune that they know and love while they brush their teeth. Better yet, hum along with them! You two can be a two-man, or woman, band that rocks out in the bathroom together. You can also encourage your child to get more involved by moving their lips, tongue, and jaw. That way, they brush their teeth at different angles during the two minutes.
Second, convince your child that they are a bubble machine! The more they brush, the more their mouth will fill with bubbles. Have them see how many bubbles they can make in two minutes. While they make bubbles, their teeth will get thoroughly cleaned and nourished.
Third, make brushing a family activity. Get everyone in the bathroom together, even the dog! Start by brushing your own teeth. Then, after 30 seconds or so, switch and brush each other’s teeth. But remember, if you brush the dog’s teeth, use a different brush and wash your hands afterward.
Fourth, get a cheap stereo and keep it in the bathroom. While your child is brushing, play a two minute song they enjoy. Then, encourage them to dance, sing, and brush for two minutes. Feel free to join your child and have a mini tooth-brushing party!
Fifth, use an hourglass timer rather than a digital timer. If you use the hourglass, your child will enjoy watching the sand drop from the top of the glass to the bottom while they brush their teeth.
